Keep Britain Tidy estimates that around two million pieces of rubbish are dropped every day in the UK. Street clearing costs UK taxpayers £1bn annually, and the damage to the environment is immense.

At Arrow, protecting the environment is something we’re passionate about, and Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ campaign is one that resonates closely with our own environmental aims.

Back for its eighth year, the Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign, running from 17th March – 2nd April annually. In line with the campaign’s 2023 focus on “improving the environment on your doorstep”, we were inspired to hold our own event to protect some of the amazing green spaces in our local area.

Supporting the campaign’s “One Bag, Big Difference” theme, our Arrow #LitterHeroes pledged to fill 1 bag of litter each, and we’re delighted to say that we met our #BigBagChallenge.

Our team of 7 volunteers completed the equivalent of 10.5 hours litter picking at local recreation and nature conversation area, Radbrook Pond - clearing the area of 7 bags of rubbish in addition to a range of ‘dumped’ household items. Whilst we are proud to have taken action to make a difference in our local area, the event has only heightened our awareness of the problem, and need to take action to protect local spaces and environments.

“I’m immensely proud of the proactive approach the team took to organising and manging the litter pick. As a local company, I think it’s so important that we positively impact our local community, and the amount of litter they collected will make a huge difference – not only for residents who live nearby, but also for the wildlife in the area.”
